The sound of the tire echoed down the long empty stretch of road. "Mike, what's wrong?" Carol asked with a growing look of concern on her face. "We, have a flat-tire," Mike announced as he pulled the wagon off the side of the road and parked. "Oh Mike, how?" Carol asked, even more concerned. "We must have picked up a nail or glass down the road," Mike said turning off the engine. "Now we'll never get to the Grand Canyon!" Bobby said and crossed his arms, sulking in the backseat. Mike and Carol got out of the car and walked to the tire in question to have a look. The rest of the Brady kids filed out quickly to join them. "Yep, it's a flat all right," Mike announced. "I am sooo hot, my make-up is melting," Marcia said patting her face and pulled out a brush as if from nowhere and began her routine. "Maybe we can patch the tire with what falls off your face, " Jan said with an evil grin. "Very funny Jan. You made me lose count!" Marcia said starting over silently to herself. "Can't we just fix it Dad?" Peter asked. "Good thinking Peter. Greg will you get the spare out of the trunk please," Mike asked, handing him the keys. Greg took them and walked slowly back towards the trunk. Peter followed him. "Why aren't you getting the tire out Greg?" Peter asked as Greg stood staring at the ground. "Dad's gonna kill me," Greg whispered to him. "Why?" Peter asked leaning in to hear him better. "Last month I borrowed the car and I had a flat. I fixed it with the spare and forgot to have the spare repaired," Greg told him. Mike, tired of waiting headed back to check on Greg. "Son, where's the tire?" "Dad, I had a flat last month and forgot to repair the tire," Greg explained. "I'm glad you told me Greg. It takes a man to admit when he's wrong," Mike said. "What do we do about the tire?" Peter asked. "Carol, kids, it looks like we'll have to walk into town, our spare-tire isn't going to work," Mike told them all. "Oh Mike why?" Carol asked rushing to his side. "It's a tale for another time, Carol. Greg, you and I will walk into town and see if we can rustle up a spare tire. Carol you wait here by the car with the kids, we'll be back just as soon as we can," Mike explained as his curly fro blew in the breeze. "Oh Mike when?" Carol pushed. "Before dark, I promise," Mike replied. "Hurry back, itsth going to get dark sthoon," Cindy added. *** to be continued... *** +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Subj: AG- TALES OF TRINITY - Chapter 2 Date: 96-04-18 04:42:30 EDT From: demeter@eskimo.com (Tony Anderson) Sender: owner-agothic@stargame.org To: agothic@stargame.org (AmericanGothic) And now, yet another chapter in our on-going scary "what-if" saga... :) ToNy TALES OF TRINITY - "Here's A Story Of A Man Named Buck" Chap. 2 By ToNy Anderson (demeter@eskimo.com) April 18, 1996 ___________________ Mike and Greg walked down the long stretch of road that lay before them. The sun had gone down and the light was beginning to fade. "I wonder where we are Dad?" Greg asked. "Somewhere near Flagstaff if your mother read the map right," Mike replied with a smile of reassurance. As if out of nowhere a red car appeared on the road beside them. The car slowed and stopped. A woman poked her head out of the driver's side and flashed a welcoming smile to the two Brady's. "Need a helpin' hand, gentlemen?" she asked. "Yes, thank you. I'm Mike Brady and this is my oldest son, Greg. Is this Flagstaff up ahead?" The woman gave a seductive laugh. "You are in Trinity, Mr. Brady," she said sizing him up. The smile on her face faded slightly when she saw the pattern of Mike's tie clash horribly with his shirt and pants. "Trinity, Arizona?" Mike asked. "Trinity, South Carolina," the woman said going along with what she thought was a joke. "This is just awful!" Greg announced. "My name is Selena Coontz, I'm the school teacher. Maybe I could give you a lift into town?" she offered. "We would certainly be obliged," Mike said as they piled into the passenger side of the car. "Trouble with your car?" Selena asked dropping her hand from the stick-shift to Mike's knee. "Yes, we need to find a spare tire," Mike explained, thankful that Greg was looking off out the window. "There's a lil' ol' spot I know of, they'll get you what you'll need," Selena said, her smile dropping again when she saw the dreaded tie. "If there's anything we can do to repay you, please ask," Mike told her with a smile. "Maybe when you get all jacked up, you can come over to the school and help me bang some erasers," Selena suggested as Mike gulped. The car took off down the road in a flash. Meanwhile, back at the station wagon, Carol, Alice and the kids wait nervously. "Mom, do you think we'll see the Grand Canyon in the morning?" Bobby asked in a nagging tone. "I hope so, Bobby. I just hope your father and Greg get back soon," Carol replied. "Oh no!" Jan exclaimed. "What is it Jan?" Carol asked rushing over to her. "My glasses, I lost my glasses!" Jan said in a panic. "Did you leave them in the car?" Alice asked. Jan walked around and began dumping suitcases out onto the road while searching for her glasses. A police siren could be heard and a car appeared from out of nowhere. "Maybe he can help us," Carol said with hope. Jan continued to toss luggage out into the street as the man in a brown vest casually made his way towards the group. "This your luggage?" the man asked. "Yes, I'm sorry, my daughter Jan lost her glasses," Carol tried to explain. The man watched a moment as two smaller cases flew through the air in front of him and landed on the cement with a crash. "I see. Are you aware that this is slowing down traffic flow?" the man asked her. "Here they are!" Yelled Jan from the backseat. "The name is Sheriff Lucas Buck, that's-" "Duck!" yelled Alice at the man. Lucas dodged the last small suitcase as Jan tossed it in the road with a bang. The case opened and a dozen white sock-balls rolled out onto the pavement. "My socks!" Marcia screamed and ran to pick them up. Lucas bent down and helped Marcia gather the socks; he gave her a private smile. "And who might you be, lil' darlin'?" Lucas asked coyly. "Marcia Brady," she replied smiling back. "Our car has a flat, can you give us a lift into town? My husband walked in, maybe we could meet up with him," Carol asked. "He sure drethesses funny," Cindy whispered to Bobby, sending them both into a giggle. "No problem, uh Mrs. Brady I take it?" Lucas asked taking a closer look. "Yes, it's Carol," she replied. "Aren't you the-" Lucas began but was cut off. "And this is Alice, Peter, Bobby, Cindy, Jan and Marcia you met," Carol finished. "Hello, I'm Jan Brady. Do you think I look pretty?" Jan asked tossing her hair in front of Marcia. "Pretty desperate," Lucas shot back taking Marcia's arm and leading her off to the cruiser. "Marcia did it again! Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!" Jan said in a huff giving the sock case a swift kick. "How come those clouds are so dark up there?" Peter asked. "AMERICAN GOTHIC," Alice said. "What?" Peter asked her. "I forgot my favorite painting, AMERICAN GOTHIC. I knew I'd forget something on this trip!" Alice said bending over to pick up the luggage off the road as everyone else waited patiently in Sheriff's Buck's land cruiser. "Can I turn on the siren?" Marcia asked in the front seat. "Sweetheart, you can blow my siren anytime you want," Lucas replied. After a moment Lucas stuck his head out the window and looked back at Alice, who now was a barrage of luggage from head to foot. She walked a few feet and disappeared out of his sightline. A few seconds later she reappeared and shuffled awkwardly towards the trunk. "Housekeeper, let's get a move-on!" Lucas yelled. "She tries her best," Carol said smiling. "I'm okay, don't you worry about me," Alice called back as she finished loading the luggage into the trunk. She slammed the trunk shut and rubbed her hands together. "See you in town!" Lucas said waving as Alice ran after the car as he shot off. "Hey, what about me?" Alice yelled and stopped running. Alice began to walk slowly after them, talking to herself. "I guess there wasn't room. It can't be too far into town," she said self-assuringly. "Who are you talkin' too?" a young voice asked. Alice spun around to find a boy dressed in a striped shirt. "Oh, hello. I was talking to myself, do it all the time," Alice said giving him a smile. "Do you ever see ghosts?" the boy asked her with a stern look. "Ghosts? Well, there was this one time that the Brady's were going to sell their house and the kids didn't want, listen to me! I'm rambling on. Hi, my name is Alice, what's yours?" "Caleb Temple, pleased to meet ya," he said extending his hand. "So, the Grand Canyon far is it?" Alice asked. "You kidding me aren't ya?" Caleb said grinning. "Caleb, can you show me a nice place to stay for the night?" Alice asked as she walked down the road with Caleb at her side. "I know just the place, and you can meet Dr. Matt. Are you with somebody?," Caleb asked. "Yes, I'm traveling with a family I work for, the Brady's," Alice explained. Down the road a white flash ocurred and the vision of a young woman appeared. watching them. "At last, Lucas Buck shall pay for his sins. My prayers have been answered Caleb, together we will all defeat him, the Brady's are our last hope," she said then vanished as quick as she had come. The evening breeze followed them on down the stretch of road towards Trinity. *** To Be Continued *** +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Subj: AG- TALES OF TRINITY - Chapter 3 Date: 96-04-20 06:21:47 EDT From: demeter@eskimo.com (Tony Anderson) Sender: owner-agothic@stargame.org To: agothic@stargame.org (AmericanGothic) TALES OF TRINITY - "Here's A Story Of A Man Named Buck" Chap. 3 By ToNy Anderson (demeter@eskimo.com) April 19, 1996 ________________ Lucas' land cruiser pulled up in front of Miss Holt's boarding house and came to an abrupt stop. Out filed an assortment of Brady's, all except Marcia, who remained in the passenger seat. "Thanks so much, Sheriff," Carol said smiling. "No trouble at all, just keeping up with the tourist crowd is all. You folks can do no better than this here boardin' house. Miss Holt will treat you all real good, that's promise," Lucas said as Marcia stared at him. "Marcia, are you coming honey?" Carol asked with a polite smile. "Can't I just stay with Lucas, Mom?" Marcia asked not taking her eyes off him. "Maybe the Sheriff would like to head on home, Marcia," Carol told her. "I'm in no hurry, Mrs. Brady. Maybe Marcia would like a nice boat ride on the lake. You can swim can't you darlin'?" Lucas asked with a smile. " I do the backstroke," Marcia said in a daze. "If your sure it isn't a bother to you?" Carol asked. "None whatsoever. It's a fine night, I'll have her on her back strokin' in no time at all," Lucas said with a smile that made Marcia sigh. "Don't stay out too late Marcia," Carol told her with a concerned look. "I won't," Marcia replied. Lucas pulled off down the road as Carol remembered that all of their luggage was in the trunk of his car. "Sheriff! Sheriff!" Carol called out but to no avail. Carol gave up and went up the stairs and onto the front porch. A car zoomed up to the front of the house and Mike and Greg got out. "Thank you Selena, we'll be able to repair our car tomorrow morning and be on our way thanks to you," Mike said with a smile. "You owe me... Mike," Selena said pursing her lips a little. "Thanks for showing me the wrestling holds, Miss Coontz. I can't wait to try them out," Greg said with a smile. "You boys need to know anything else, I'd be more than happy to teach you," Selena said pumping her engine. "The kids in Trinity should feel lucky to have you as a teacher. You must take great care in shaping their young impressionable minds," Mike conveyed admiringly. "Why shaping is my favorite part, Mike," Selena said giving them a wave as she took off down the road. "I sure hope this boarding house is a good one. We need to bunk up for the night and go find your Mother and the kids," Mike said as they headed up the stairs. "Mom!" Greg said sprinting up to the door. "Mike! Greg! I was so worried, I'm glad your all right," Carol said giving Mike a hug. The door opened and Peter was at the door. "Mom! Dad! Greg!" Everyone filed inside to meet Miss Holt. Meanwhile on the lake, Lucas and Marcia drift slowly in the center as the cool night air surrounds them. "It is soooo dreamy out here," Marcia whispered. "You are quite the beauty Marcia Brady," Lucas said in a gentle whisper back. "I know," Marcia replied taking out her brush and began counting. "What are you doing?" "I'm brushing my hair, it's time," she replied going into her routine. "You bet it's time sweet cheeks," Lucas told her. "Do you like music? I love Davy Jones, he is the absolute best. I'm the president of his fan club, did you know that?" "I'll be the president of your fan club," Lucas replied taking the brush out of Marcia's hand and tossing it over his shoulder into the lake with a loud plunk. "My brush!" Marcia exclaimed standing up in the boat, making it sway. "You don't need that." "How can I ever be a teen model without my brush?" Marcia said her voice becoming stressed as she peered over the edge to see if she could spot the brush in the dark water. Lucas stood up quickly to try and sit her back down and slammed the top of his head into her nose. "Oh my nose!" "Sorry darlin'. Never stand up in a boat, things could turn for the worst," Lucas told her as she sat down with both hands covering her nose. "I might as well die!" Marcia said in a panic. "Careful what you wish for," Lucas replied. "I'm afraid you'll all have to share rooms, I didn't expect this much company," Miss Holt said overwhelmed. "We don't want to be any trouble to you Miss Holt. We'll be out of your hair in the morning once we fix our tire," Mike told her. "A little far off the beaten track for the Grand Canyon aren't you?" Matt asked. "Well, a wise man once said, wherever you go, there you are," Mike said with a proud face. "That's my fault I'm afraid," Carol said. "Mom, I'm hungry!" Bobby whined. "Soon Bobby, be patient," Carol answered. Jan and Cindy came rushing into the room giggling with excitement. "Mom, look what Jan found!" Cindy squealed. "It's a oujia board. Let's take it upstairs and try it out!" Jan said with delight racing back the way they had come. "I don't think you wanna do that missy, not in this town," Loris warned her but gave up. "Kids," Carol replied. "That reminds me, Loris have you seen Caleb tonight?" Matt asked, noticing he wasn't around in all the mayhem.. "No, supper will be ready in a few moments and I already set out his corn flakes," she replied setting the milk onto the table. "Is Caleb your son?" Carol asked. "No, he's my ward. Who can guess what kind of trouble he's gone and got himself into today," Loris said with a chuckle. "Little devil is he?" Carol asked with a smile. Greg shuffled into the kitchen. "Mom, Dad, they have more than one bathroom here. And it even has a toilet," Greg said with excitement. Matt and Loris exchanged a reserved look. Loris went over to the stove and began to stir the kettle of soup only to lift something heavy out with the spoon. There, hanging from the end was a doll, covered in vegetables and broth. "What in blazes is this?" Loris said holding it up. "It's Cindy's doll, Kitty Carry-All, she's always losing it," Carol said taking the doll quickly off the spoon. The door opened and in walked Caleb and Alice. "Alice!" Mike and Carol exclaimed. "Looks like you found yer family, Alice," Caleb said with a smile. "Thanks to you, Caleb," Alice said giving him a hug. "Matt, is it okay if Caleb bunks with you tonight, looks like we need more room," Loris said rolling her eyes. "Sure, as long as he doesn't snore," Matt said smiling down at Caleb. "I don't snore!" Caleb replied. Upstairs, Jan and Cindy sit on opposite sides of the oujia board. "I'll go first," Jan said. "Athsk a questhen Jan." "Are there any ghosts in this house?" For a second nothing happened, then the marker moved to the letter 'M' then to 'E', then to 'R', then to 'L', to 'Y' and last to 'N'. "Merlyn? I wonder who that is?" Jan asked. The voices inside Jan's head began... "Whoever she is, she has to be more popular then you Jan!" "No!" Jan shouted. "Let me athsk one!" The light vanished as the bedroom light went on above them. "Marcia!" Jan said in a whine. "Why are you sitting in the dark?" Marcia asked opening a drawer and placing her white socks in careful, even rows. "We were trying to contact a ghost, until something even more scary came in," Jan said laughing. "Oh Jan, you are so immature. When you've reached my age, you'll realize such games are childish," Marcia said admiring her perfect rows. "How was your dateth, Marcia?" Cindy asked "That Sheriff is absolutely dreamy," Marcia said smiling in a daze. "What happened to your nose?" Jan asked. "It shows!? Oh I'm ruined, now I'll never be popular when I go back to school!" Marcia exclaimed in anguish. The next morning, Caleb took Bobby and Cindy out to show them around. "What is there to do around here?" Bobby asked, following Caleb through the woods. "Lots of stuff. Ever see a beetle-flenser?" Caleb stopped, asking him. Bobby and Cindy both nodded in bafflement. "How about a BBQ-funeral?" Caleb tried. The nodding commenced. "Gail! This here is Bobby and Cindy Brady, their Yankees. Their car broke down and it's being fixed," Caleb told her. "Hello, nice to meet you," Gail said smiling. Bobby couldn't help but stare at Gail. "What is it?" Gail asked puzzled by his gaze. "Aren't you April?" Bobby asked. "Who?" "April? You are a reporter, you know the Ninja Turtles!" Bobby said excited. "Turtles?" I don't know what your talking about. I am a reporter, but have never heard of the Ninja Turtles; are they a hockey team?" Gail asked smiling. "You must be undercover on a story here in town, I understand," Bobby said like he knew exactly what she was up too. "Taking the little ones on a field trip Miss Emory?" said the familiar voice of Lucas Buck from behind. "Sheriff, no I was just meeting the young Brady kids here," Gail said, feeling un-nerved by Lucas' gathering eyes. "Caleb, found some friends have we boy?" Lucas said grinning. "Yes sir, I'm gonna show them the graveyard," Caleb replied. "Maybe later you can test the skills of archery for little-" "Bobby Brady," Bobby chimed in. "Like it matters. Get to know who your true friends are," Lucas said patting Caleb on the head. "See you later Gail," Caleb said as he started on. "Have fun!" Gail called out. "Cowabunga!" Bobby called back with a beaming smile that made Gail nervous. "Need a story? How about you and I living happily ever after?" Lucas suggested coyly. "It's been beaten to death," Gail said shooting back. "Not yet," Lucas said with a smirk. Back at the boarding house Marcia sat at the kitchen table staring at her reflection in a hand-mirror. Her nose was black-n-blue and swollen. Mike walked in and couldn't help but notice. "Something wrong Marcia?" "It's my nose, my social life is over!" "I heard you had a midnight caller last night. A town Sheriff if I'm not mistaken," Mike prodded. "He's the most Dad!" "He's a bit older then you are Marcia. He has a few years under his belt." "Why does everyone treat me like such a baby? It's not like I'm dating the anti-christ or anything!" she spouted, shocked she would ever say such a thing. Loris shuffled into the kitchen and heard Marcia's comment and grabbed the bar of soap from the sink and headed towards her. "Now that wasn't called for Marcia, maybe we should talk about this," Mike said. Loris crammed the soap into Marcia's mouth before she could reply. "Chew on this dear, you'll forget all about your nose. Maybe you'll think twice next time," Loris said collecting Caleb's corn-flake bowl from breakfast. Marcia pulled the soap out of her mouth with a loud pop as Matt walked in. He noticed a sour expression on her face as she held the soap in her hand. "Are you done with that?" Matt asked. Marcia fled from the room in tears. "What happened to her nose? Someone hit her with a football?" Matt asked as Mike went after her. "Tell me those people are leaving today!" Loris said aloud. "Maybe we should call on Sheriff Buck for help?" Matt said with a smile. "It may come to that!" Loris said as she started in on the dishes. Later at the garage, Selena stood beside Mike as his car was getting the final look over. "I can't thank you enough, Miss Coontz," Mike told her. "Sure you can," she replied with a seductive smile. "Almost done are we?" asked a voice from the back of the garage. "Lucas honey, we we're just having one final look-over," Selena said running her hand across Mike's shoulders. "Excuse me, I don't believe we've met. I'm Sheriff Lucas Buck, that's Buck with a 'B'." Lucas told him coldly. "Mike Brady. That's Brady, also with a 'B' Mike came back with a little laugh that faded quickly. "Couldn't decide what to wear this morning friend?" Lucas asked him as he circled, repulsed his glaring wardrobe. "I don't think I follow," Mike said. "Who dresses you boy, your momma?" Lucas asked him blankly. "Of course not, Carol does," Mike explained, taking it as a compliment. "And you like it?" "Sure. The kids love it, Alice loves it, Carol loves it." "I think it's sexy," Selena added. "Not as good as that leather suit you had me try on," Mike whispered to her. "A little extra-credit with the teacher, Mike?" Lucas pressed. "He scored real high, he's a fast learner," Selena added, knowing the game all too well. Lucas stood face-to-face with Mike, eyeball to eyeball. "Oh my God," Selena said in astonishment. "What now?" Lucas asked her. "You both have got to look in the mirror," she said pulling the two of them in front of the little mirror inside the garage bathroom. "Selena, what in the hell are you doin'? Lucas demanded. "You could be brothers, take a look," Selena said with a laugh. Mike and Lucas both gazed into the mirror at one another. Selena was right, other then Mike's fro, their faces were identical. "It's like little ol' Patty Duke!" Selena said with a laugh. "Selena, I have had it with you!" Lucas warned. "Wait a minute, I have an idea," Selena said. "Yah, I guess so," Caleb replied. "Look at these gravestones! This one says: Here lies Dolores, she spent one day too many in Trinity. Here's another one: At rest in sleep Chris does do, but with a shovel beware you!" Bobby giggled. "Look at this one: Kelly knew Buck, but only a short while, onthce the flame went out sthe got buried in sthtyle," Cindy read slowly. "Hey look, a cat!" "Not as striking as these clothes," Lucas said outloud. "Now, let's work on that accent Mike," Selena said taking him by the hand. "Maybe dressed like this I'll have a better chance with Mrs. Brady," Lucas said to himself with a smile. At the hospital, Marcia sat atop Dr. Crower's exam table, her head hanging low. "It's broken isn't it?" Marcia asked him. "Yes, but it will heal if you let it," Matt replied. "Marcia, it's going to be all right, you'll see," Mrs. Brady told her with a short smile. "My life is over. Doug Simpson will never look at me now!" Marcia wailed. "Doug Simpson?" Matt asked. "Big man on campus," Marcia and Carol said in unison. "Keep the ice packs coming like I suggested and be careful till it heals," Matt said as they stood up. "Thanks so much for seeing us without an appointment, Dr. Dour," Carol said shaking his hand. "It's Crower, take care and I hope you have a safe trip home," Matt replied showing them to the door. "Thank you," Carol returned. In the hallway Marcia's face lit up with delight. "Mom, look it's Lucas!" "Don't you think you should put some ice on your nose?" "And look like a total geek? Ok mom, stay and pretend I just said something really funny. No, leave. No, stay," Marcia said giving her hair a flip as Lucas approached. "Good morning, Marcia," Lucas said shyly. "Hello Lucas." Marcia answered back staring into his eyes. "I'll see you back at the boarding house, Marcia," Carol said as Marcia paid no notice of her departure. Back at the boarding house, Alice shares a cup of conversation with Gail. "At least you have a career, I have a job," Alice told her. "You are with people you love, surely there's reward in that?" Gail said with a polite smile. "Try lugging luggage 25 miles and tell me about love," Alice said giving her coffee another swig. "You have a safe and comfortable life don't you?" Gail asked her. "Cleaning the house, making lunches, sure safe." "I think if you set your mind to it Alice, you could do anything," Gail told her. "What's wrong with your hair dear?" Alice asked. "What do you mean?" "It's so... limp," Alice asked pointing to it. "Oh, it's the fans," Gail replied. "Fans?" Alice repeated. "Yes, Loris has them all over the house, they blow my hair all over the place," Gail explained. Outside, Jan reads aloud from a book she found in Miss Holts room. "Summer in Trinity is like a flower, Except when you have to visit Dr. Dour. Ghost dogs are fine and float with ease, Just be sure you don't end up in pease. A lucky pen can be a truth to survive, just be sure that you know who can drive." "What does it all mean?" Peter asked confused. "I don't know, it's really far out, don't you think?" Jan asked. A voice called from the house. "Peter! Your porkchops and apple sauce are done!" "Coming Miss Holt!" Peter called back. On the front porch Mike and Carol sat on the swing. "Mike, it's nice here, but I'll be glad when we start back home," Carol said. "This place may be just what we need, Carol." Meanwhile in Caleb's room, Bobby and Cindy have bunked in. With their sleeping bags layed out they all began to finally go to sleep. "Hey Cindy, are you asleep?" Bobby asked with a whisper. "Yeth, I'm snoring," Cindy said with a soft giggle. Dr. Crower awoke on the other side of the room. "Do you guys mind, I have an early appointment tomorrow," Matt said sleepily. "Sorry Dr. Matt," Caleb said giving Cindy and Bobby the famous Caleb eyebrow look. Soon they began to drift off to sleep.. Caleb lay on the floor awake staring at the ceiling. "Merly, can you hear me?" Caleb asked. For a second the room remained still and black. "Merly?" The room began to fill with blinding white light and a heavenly chorus began to sing as Merlyn drifted into the room dressed all in white. "Turn off the light Caleb!" Dr. Crower shouted. "It's good to see you Merly," Caleb said smiling. "Turn off that music too! It's late, I'm trying to sleep!" Matt said with anger building in his voice. Bobby woke and turned towards Caleb and spotted the source of light. There sitting at the foot of Caleb's sleeping bag was a young girl dressed in white, with long brunette hair. "A ghost!" Bobby shouted and jumped up in turn waking Cindy up who also saw the girl and screamed. In a whirl Merlyn vanished just as Matt flicked on the lights in the room. "Enough!" Matt said sternly. Why is that Brady girl following you everywhere, Lucas?" Ben asked not sure he wanted to know the answer. "Maybe it's my charismatic charming good looks," Lucas said with a smile. "That girls's father is gonna be after you in no time," Ben said in a worried tone. "I have that all covered, Ben, you can just relax," Lucas shot back. "What does she see in you anyhow?" "She is interested in Law Enforcement. Besides, I promised to restrain and question her later," Lucas replied. "Lucas, why are you wearing bell-bottoms?" Ben asked, noticing his feet up on the desk. Lucas realised his error and put his feet under the desk. "Styles change Ben, you either change with them or live to repeat them," Lucas told him, with uncertainty. "I see where you fell," Ben said shortly. "Who's driving the car Ben?" Lucas asked. Ben shook his head and peeked out to see if Marcia was still camped out in front of the office. Caleb quietly snuck outside and once again Merlyn appeared before him. The light grew bright as the chorus could be heard once again. "You almost got me in trouble, Merly" Caleb said in a whisper. "I'm sorry Caleb. There is somethin' I need to tell you, somethin' important," Merlyn said floating down with a dog at her side. "What is it? Is it about Sheriff Buck?" Caleb asked with dread. "Yes, the sheriff isn't who he appears to be. He has traded places with another," Merlyn told him. Merlyn produced a white lighted frisbee and tossed it, the dog floated up after it and returned it to her side. "Who did he switch places with?" Caleb asked. Merlyn faded away. "Who?" Caleb asked again. "Who what?" a voice asked from behind. Caleb turned to see Marcia standing a few feet away, brushing her hair. "Nothin' I was just talkin' to myself, that's all," Caleb said to her with a half smile. "Isn't it a dreamy full moon?" Marcia asked staring up at it. "It's always a full moon in Trinity," Caleb said heading back into the house. Marcia continued to brush her hair as she began to hum a Davy Jones song to herself. "You must be Marcia Brady," A sultry voice asked from the shadows. "Yes, who are you?" Marcia asked stopping only momentarily. "I'm Selena Coombs, the schoolteacher. I can help you with your little ol' Lucas problem," Selena said baitingly. "Far out, he is soooo dreamy," Marcia began. "He is a hot one," Selena replied with a half smile. "He has a devilish charm," Marcia added. "Oh he is a devil all right," Selena chimed in as she walked off in the moonlight with Marcia to talk. ****** to be continued ***** ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Subj: "Here's A Story Of A Man Named Buck" Chapter 7 (conclusion) Date: 96-09-24 03:10:12 EDT From: demeter@greatnorthern.net (Tony Anderson) Sender: owner-ag-fanfic@stargame.org To: ag-fanfic@stargame.org TALES OF TRINITY ________________ By ToNy Anderson "Here's A Story Of A Man Named Buck" Chapter 7 September 23, 1996 ___________________ Matt shuffled to the breakfast table as Loris set a plate of flapjacks in front of him. "Late night?" Matt rubbed his eyes and glanced at Loris wearily. "Those kids, I can't spend another night in that room. I swear I'll kill them. I mean Caleb isn't so bad, but those two Brady kids. The boy, what's his name, Bobby, he kept emptying all my dressers claiming he was working on a case and he had to solve it. The other one, the one with the annoying lisp, she kept giving her doll a bath in the sink and using my shaving cream as bubbles. Any idea when the Brady clan is fleeing Trinity?" "The sooner the better. Mrs. Brady keeps after me to make meatloaf, porkchops and applesauce." The kitchen door opens and in comes Jan followed by Boone. "Where are you two off to?" Loris asked curiously. "I am taking Boone to meet my new boyfriend, George Glass," Jan said as her braces gleamed as she smiled. "Does George live around here?" Matt asked not sure he wanted an answer. "He's from out of town, he travels alot," Jan replied. Jan and Boone head into the living room as Marsha enters in a panic. "Marsha, what is it?" Matt asked her. "My life is over!" Marcia exclaimed. "Good lord, what is it now," Loris pressed, "Your hair get stuck in your brush again?" "Even worse! I went to see Sheriff Buck and he refused to even speak to me! Me?! The great Marsha Brady!? Can you believe it?" Marsha said looking to the two of them for comfort. "Lucas not wanting to see an attractive young woman, now that IS a switch," Matt said sipping his hot coffee that Loris had added before him. "He is a little old for you dear," Loris pointed out. "That's not even the worse part! I got past Ben and barged into his office and he told me we couldn't see each other any more that it just wouldn't work out!" Marsha went on. "Isn't your family heading out of Trinity today?" Matt asked hopeful. "How can I think of going anywhere at a time like this?" Marsha said with anguish. "I can help you start," Matt added with a smile that made Loris giggle. "I have never been so humiliated in my entire life! After he told me we were breaking up I asked why and he told me!" Marsha went on. Loris glanced at Matt then back to Marsha. "What did he say?" Loris asked with a smile. "He said we couldn't go out anymore because, because he said he was my father!" Marsha burst out with panic. "Wouldn't be the first bastard our good Sheriff has fathered," Matt said looking away to his food. "Sheriff Buck is your father? Good heavens, that man sure do get around," Loris said getting up from the table. "I'm going upstairs to die!" Marsha said and began to walk out of the kitchen. "Let us know if there is anything we can do to help!" Matt called out as Loris busted out laughing. ~ ~ ~ Lucas bolted in to Selena's classroom, dressed in his Mike Brady attire as the kids giggled and pointed. "Miss Coombs, can I speak to you for a moment?" he said in a harsh whisper. "Class, this is clothing from the 1970's. Remember the photos I showed all of you? Let's all thank Sheriff Buck for showing us this nice apparel from another decade," Selena said with a smirk. The kids all yelled out "thank you Sheriff Buck" in unison as he forced a smile, yanking Selena out the door by her arm. "Not so rough Sheriff, at least not yet, " Selena said with a seductive smile. "Cut the crap Selena!" Lucas said yanking off the curly wig and tossing it over his shoulder. "I just love a man in polyester," Selena said toyingly. "No more! That family is out of here today!" Lucas said with a stern look, a look that Selena knew was serious. "But I liked your new look, it was so sexy," Selena cooed. "I'll show you sexy my dear," Lucas said reaching down behind her thigh. "I'll get the wax and meet you at your house about 3:30," Selena whispered into his ear as she gave a moan of satisfaction. "Groovy," Lucas shot back and kissed her. ~ ~ ~ Carol helped Mike carry down their luggage to the front porch. "Mike, I feel so bad about the things I did while you were Sheriff Buck. I mean some of it wasn't very Brady-like," Carol told him with a worried tone. "That's ok Carol, some of the things I did as Lucas wouldn't be allowed in the Brady code as well," Mike said smiling and kissing Carol on the forehead. "Some of those things wouldn't be allowed in most states either," Matt added as he helped carry the bags to the back of the station wagon. "This town is so neato! Can we come back again?" Peter asked. "Someday Peter. Right now I think what we Brady's need is to get back home," Mike replied lifting the luggage into the car. Caleb, Bobby and Cindy ran up to the group. "Looks like your going home," Caleb said. "It's been real fun Caleb, maybe you can come spend time with us?" Bobby said hopeful. "We'll see.. Maybe Caleb's parents will want to keep an eye on him," Carol said. "Naw, my family is dead. My dad whacked my sister in the head with a shovel and my mom jumped out a winda after she was raped by my real dad, Sheriff Buck," Caleb said as Carol grew speechless. "Sheriff Buck is you father too?" Marsha asked dumbfounded. "Yes," Caleb replied. "Your my brother!" Marsha said giving Caleb a big hug. "Marsha honey, get in the car, I'll explain in on the way back home," Mike said. The Sheriff's cruiser pulled up next to the station wagon and out came Lucas. "Sheriff Buck, we want to thank you for all you've done for us here in Trinity. If there's anything I can do for you, anything at all, you just name it. We owe you big time," Mike said offering a handshake. "Pay it no mind. This is one favor I guarantee you I WON'T be collecting on," Lucas said with a smile. "Goodbye folks and thank you," Mike said as they piled into the car. The station wagon pulled away as the Brady's waved goodbye from the windows. Loris and Matt waved a gave a placid smile. "I thought this day would never come," Matt said through his teeth. "You should see what they did to my potato sacks," Loris said as her wave turned into the bird. "Excuse me, have you seen where Mr. and Mrs. Brady went?" Alice asked from behind them on the porch. "Down that road and out of our lives forever," Matt said pointing. Alice ran down the stairs carrying her luggage and down the road after them. "Mrs. Brady! Wait stop! Mr. Brady!" Alice screamed as she disappeared into the distance. THE END
