BOOK OF GLORY II The Town They Called Trinity By Alien PART I "A Town Under The Devil Gail Emory, Staff Reporter Trinity, S.C.: While spending sometime in Trinity over the past year this reporter has many shocking and unexplainable events that have centered around one powerful person in this little community, Sheriff Lucas Buck. Buck can be linked to many actions unbecoming of a lawman, but in this town no one says or does anything. Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil, and in Trinity, Live With Evil. This reporter has seen it with her own eyes, the events, the documents, the actions of this very man. While no one wants to get involved this man has destroyed families and killed innocent people for his own gain...." "Marcy!? Has James gotten back from his trip yet?" called a gray haired man as he continued to read the email that had just crossed his laptop. "Yes, Mr. Emmitt, he just called from the airport. He's heading to the office now," said a young blond receptionist that was at the door. "When he gets here, tell him the joke was funny, but a tad too obvious." "Sure...Sir." The receptionist left and closed the door behind her. "And you thought I'd believe that this was the work of your best writer. James you really are losing it," said the man out loud. * * * * * * * * * Back in Trinity: "So she still thinks I was the one that pushed her over that railing?" "Sure is, darling." Lucas cozied up to Gloriea on the swing on Ms. Holt's porch. "At least that'll keep her out of my hair." "But not mine, she's insisting on you being arrested." "And won't you love to do that." "At least I'd be able to keep track of you that way. You know what you did to old lady McHavish was not nice." "And you thought I did that?" "Who else had reason to give that old axe a scare?" "Huh...maybe you?" "But it was more your style." "But you know what my style is, who's to say that you didn't make it look like me." "Who's to say." "Exactly." "Was it fun." "Of course, I never put that much effort into something unless it's going to be fun." "McHavish is still swearing that her dead husband came to her that night, she also finally admitted that she was the one that poisoned him." "Good, I always liked Mr. McHavish." "Good? But now I have nothing to blackmail her with." "Like she is any use to you." "True." Just then Gail's red mustang pulled up out front. Gloriea smiled at her and Gail sped away. "I guess she didn't like the look of things," said Lucas. Caleb ran out of the front door, "was that Gail?" Gloriea silently nodded to Caleb. "Why's she always running off like that?" said Caleb. "Maybe she smelled a good story in the wind," said Lucas. "I wish she'd at least stop by and say hi or something." "Why don't you call her on her cell? Tell her I've gone out with the sheriff," said Gloriea as she got up from the swing and montioned for Lucas to follow. "What was that all about?" said Lucas once they were in the car. "Caleb likes his cousin, I don't want to be the reason why she doesn't come around. That's why I've decided to speed up my plans and move in the house sooner." "The work you wanted to do isn't finished yet." "So? I'll just have to put up with some noise for a few weeks." "You could always stay at the Buck Place," said Lucas as he pulled the car out onto the street. "I don't think so." "Why not? You seem to still enjoy my company." "Enjoy is one thing, but getting the wrath of my sister is another." "You're the only woman that Selena's willing to share me with and you know it." "Sure, just as long as we don't get too close." "I don't think she'd have a problem with that." "Then you've underestimated my sister's attachment to you." "She doesn't care about all the other women I have to service." "She cared about Ms. Emory, any woman that's important to you at a higher level is one that Selena wishes out of the way." "Well, she misunderstood that." "Where are you going?" "You never said where you wanted to go so I thought I'd show you something at my house." "What else could you possibly show me that you already have?" "It's something of yours that you misplaced along time ago, it popped up after you `drowned'." "Ah, a mystery! I must know now." "I thought you'd say that." * * * * * * * * Back at the Buck Place. "I don't really know why I kept this." "Maybe you missed me?" "I miss you when you're out of my sight for mere minutes. I never know what kind of trouble you're getting into when I'm not around." "Usually fixing up what you've done." "Exactly. You're always asking for trouble." "Back to why were here. What's this thing of mine that you have?" "A little something," said Lucas as he pulled a black box out of his desk. He brought the box over to Glory who was looking through the books in his bookcase. He removed the book she had in her hand and replaced it with the box. "Open it." "Something's not going to jump out of it and rip open my heart. Will it?" "Of course, not." Lucas' devilish smile taunted Glory as she began to open. "It wouldn't do you any good if it did." "I know." Gloriea had the box completely opened and was moving the silk covering out of the way. Her eyes widen. "I'd completely forgotten about this_." "We never forget a vendetta, remember?" "This was a long time ago, is he even still around?" "Kinda. He's living up a Juniper House now." "Lucas!?" "It wasn't me this time, I swear_on my grave." "Sure." Glory picked the small locket out of the box and gave the box back to Lucas. She opened it and inside was two small pictures, one of Gloriea and the other, her sister, Selena. "I'm surprised you never got him for what he did to her." "Selena didn't want me to, and I thought it was something you wanted to do." "I did, but after I was `gone' why didn't you do anything then?" "Just never got around to it." "To busy working on getting rid of the Temple family." "The project actually took a lot of work. To many it looks like something that just happened but I was there working on it for years." "I see you finally got Gage to crack." Gloriea turned away from Lucas. "I know you don't like it but you've done similar things in the past too. As much as you fight it sometimes, you're just like me. One difference, I don't let my conscious get the better of me." "You've never had a conscious." "Some here say I don't have a heart either." "I know differently, you may not show it often, but there's still a heart in there. Somewhere_." * * * * * * * * Back at the boarding house. "Where'd Lucas and Miss Masterson go?" "I don't know, Glory just told me to call you and tell you that they were going." "Don't you think it's odd that they've been spending so much time together?" "Nah_. Glory's been friends with Lucas a long time. She's my friend too and she can handle him." "I'm sure she can, Caleb." Gail stared out onto the road. She wasn't even hearing what Caleb was saying anymore. `I'm sure she can handle herself, but what does she want with Caleb and why is she so obviously unafraid of Lucas?' TO BE CONTINUED_.
