Virtual American Gothic - Second Season Episode Nineteen - Finale - Prologue A Little Night Music by Robyn Russell ********************************************* NOT TO BE ARCHIVED TO A WEB PAGE WITHOUT THE AUTHOR'S PRIOR CONSENT. ********************************************* Lucas was comfortably settled in his study with a good book and a stiff drink. After a hard day of restoring order and harmony, a man needed a little relaxation. He had just gotten to his favorite part of "The Devil and Daniel Webster"--the trial of Jabez Stone by a jury of the damned--when the wind gusted in through the open window and blew out the lights. The electric lights. /Someone's at the door/. The words tickled in the back of his mind as if whispered by a voice too low to be consciously heard. "That you, Angel Face?" Lucas asked the room at large, alert but not overly concerned. In his line of work, one had to be prepared for the occasional unannounced visitor. "You aren't gonna get any good conduct medals actin' like that." Lucas rose and snapped on one of the wall lights. He closed his eyes, scanned the room, and found his gaze drawn to the mirror. As he approached, the reflection of the study was gradually replaced by the face of Jonathan Virgilius Kane. "You're dead," Lucas said conversationally. Kane's face metamorphised into Lucas's own, identical but for the white shirt. "You can kill the body, but the spirit moves on," Kane's reflection said. The image began to rotate slowly and then faster and faster. Lucas found himself being pulled toward the mirror. The book was torn from his hand and slammed into the wall. The vortex was becoming impossible to resist. As he stumbled forward, Lucas directed a smashing blow across the glass with his forearm. The mirror shattered into a thousand pieces. Lucas leaned against the wall to catch his breath. In the shards, the image of Kane reformed, one face now broken into many smaller pieces. "I'm comin' for you, boy." Lucas stomped hard on the shards, crushing them again, but Kane had already disappeared. ************************ Disclaimer: Any Story/episode that is a part of Virtual AG - Season Two is based upon the television Show, "American Gothic", which is the property of Shaun Cassidy, Renaissance Productions, and CBS... any characters/storyline added to support this concept is the property of the author acknowledged as such...Please, Don't Sue Us!**
